چکیده

In the present study, the effect of minocycline was studied against intracerebroventricular streptozotocin induced spatial memory deficit. Male wistar rats were injected with intracerebroventricular streptozotocin bilaterally. The rats were treated chronically with Minocycline (10, 20 and 40 mg/kg, ip) for 17 days starting from day 1 of streptozotocin injection in separate groups. The spatial memory was evaluated using the Morris water maze task. The intracerebroventricular streptozotocin infused rats showed significant memory deficits and minocycline showed significant dose dependent improvement in the task. The study demonstrated the effectiveness of minocycline in preventing spatial memory deficit induced by streptozotocin and its potential in age related neurodegenerative disorders where memory impairment is involved such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Chronic intracerebroventricular administration of dimethyl sulfoxide attenuates streptozotocin-iduced memory loss in rats

Background: The memory impairment, obtained from intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) infusion of streptozotocin (STZ) in rats through activation of oxidative stress, is accepted as sporadic Alzheimer’s disease (AD) model in most experimental studies. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as a solvent is widely used in animal studies to have antioxidant effects as well. However, no report is available ab...

Effect of Lead (Pb2+) Exposure in Female Pregnant Rats and Their Offspring on Spatial Learning and Memory in Morris Water Maze

Lead (Pb2+) is a well known neurotoxin that was frequently found in the environment and chronic exposure to lead has been matter of public health. In the present study the effect of lead on spatial memory in developmentally exposed rats and their dams in Morris water maze task were investigated. Female rats were divided into three groups and two groups exposed to 250 and 750 part per million (p...

The Effect of Aqueous Crocus sativus L. Extract on Intracerebroventricular Streptozotocin-induced Cognitive Deficits in Rat: a Behavioral Analysis

Intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of streptozotocin (STZ) causes cognitive impairment in rats. The beneficial effect of Crocus sativus L. extract (CSE) was evaluated on ICV STZ-induced learning, memory, and cognitive impairment in male rats. For this purpose, rats were injected with ICV STZ bilaterally, on days 1 and 3 (3 mg/kg). The STZ-injected rats received CSE (60 mg/kg; i.p.) every o...
